One Year After Cory Monteith’s Death, Lea Michelle Pays Loving Tribute

Lea Michele marked a year since the death of boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith, on Sunday, with a touching tribute on Twitter.

The actress posted a loving message, alongside a
picture of the couple cuddling up together, one year
after he was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room
on July 13. The co-stars had been quietly dating for
around 18 months before Monteith’s shock death.

She wrote: “We hold you in our hearts today, and
every day we remember your smile. We will love you
and miss you always.”

After struggling with substance abuse issues,
Monteith’s death was ruled as accidental and as a
result of of “a mixed drug toxicity” consisting of
heroin and alcohol. The 31 year-old actor is believed
to have entered rehab, in an attempt to beat his
demons in the months before the tragedy.

Speaking about her boyfriend following his passing,
Lea told Glamour magazine UK in February: “At the
start, it’s hard because you’re so physically and
mentally shocked and damaged, but after a while you
get tired of physically feeling so horrendous, so I
started doing yoga, which really helped.

“Then gradually your mind catches up with your
body. Now I feel a little bit more back together and I
have this blank canvas in front of me, which is what
my life can be.

She added: “There’s something sad about that but
also something good, because I will take that blank
canvas and make something beautiful out of it.”

In recent weeks Lea has gone public with her new
boyfriend Matthew Paetz. Speaking on the first
anniversary of Cory’s death, his father supported
Lea’s decision to move on. Joe Monteith told
Entertainment Tonight Canada: ”She’s a beautiful
young woman, she’s just getting to the top of her
career and I don’t expect her to go out and do it
alone,”

”She should enjoy life. She had a good time when she
was with Cory, from what I understand, but life’s
gotta go on.”

He added: ”I still miss him very much and I still have
the empty feeling inside. Cory was a likeable young
man and if he was in the room, you’d be smiling. He
enjoyed life. That’s why I was so shocked about the
outcome of everything.”
